Klazz Brothers
In its diverse projects and programs, the ensemble covers the broad range in the multifaceted space between classic and jazz. This arouses interest in new things, further developments, and the overall joy in music and in experimenting. Special projects: “Klazz meets the Voice” with the Brazilian Countertenor Edson Cordeiro with fusions between jazz standards and classical pieces, “Messias Superstar” as a modern interpretation of Händel by Tobias with the Dresdner Kreuzchor (Dresden Holy Cross Choir), J.B. Smith, Lorraine Hinds, United Berlin Big Band and the Ensemble Amarcord under the guidance of the Dresden cantor Roderich Kreille.
In cooperation with both Cuban percussionists Alexis Herrera Estevez and Elio Rodriguez Luis as Cuba Percussion, the programs Classic meets Cuba (2002), Jazz meets Cuba (2003), Mozart meets Cuba (2005) and Symphonic Salsa (2004) came about. Awarded in 2003 and 2006 with an Echo Classic, 2003 and 2005 with the Jazz Award, 2005 Grammy nomination. Music from “Classic meets Cuba” in American films (“Collateral” with Tom Cruise or “Hitch” with Will Smith.)

Participation requirements and application documents Ability to read music, instrumental or vocal skills (classical or jazz training; Please submit: certificate and indication of level of training): Main focus – piano, string instruments and drums/percussion (other instruments are also possible!). Short biography, short statement on the course topic. Optional: the course participants also are welcome to contribute already studied pieces from the classical repertoire to work with in the course (please indicate the piece in the application documents).
The Art of Conversion
How does one combine classical music with jazz or other music genres? The aim of the course is to work creatively and intensively on classical pieces, primarily with jazz techniques for harmony, melody and rhythm in order to create a symbiotic link to the various genres in the resulting piece. In the same manner, jazz standards will be elaborated on with classical techniques – thus the other way around. In short: theoretical and practical introduction to the art of “KLAZZ”. Focus: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann (Kinderszenen).
The course will be directed by the Klazz Brothers in different groups headed by the three musicians, which will then be brought back together. Saturday: Arrival and preparations, Sunday: Preparatory exercise sequence only in the groups. Start of course with the Klazz Brothers on Monday morning. Max. number of participants: 24
Kilian Forster Studies in Munich and Berlin | Member of the Herbert-von-Karajan Foundation of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra | Assistant solo bassist of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig | 10 years as a solo bassist for the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra | International Solo and Orchestra commitments. His activities with the Klazz Brothers are the creative focal point of his work as a musician and initiator of highly diverse projects | Collaboration with partners such as Daniel Kramer, David Gazarov, Martin Drew and Didier Lockwood | Responsible for the artistic direction of the series of concerts “Dresdner Philharmoniker anders” (The Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra in a Different Light), the “Unkersdorf Jazz Days” and the “Dresden Jazz Days”.
Tobias Forster Training by his grandfather Prof. Friedrich Hübsch in piano, composition, and harmonics | Piano studies at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar, specializing in classical music and jazz | Solo concerts in highly varied formations in Europe and Asia with the Dresden Philharmonic , Munich Rundfunkorchester, the NDR Pop Orchestra, with jazz musicians like Clarence Penn, David Baker, Betty Carter and Roby Lakatos | Besides arrangements for the Klazz Brothers, also solo concerts and compositions, e.g. assignments for the Lower Saxon Music Days: “Händel & Jazz” for a large jazz ensemble and the Dresden Philharmonic Children’s Choir | 2005 new scoring of “Messias” by G. F. Händel for the Boys’ Choir, Vocal Soloists, Big Band and Klazz Brothers.
Tim Hahn First drum lessons at the age of nine in the Cottbus Conservatory | Admission to the Gifted and Talented Programme and Percussion Programme at the age of 16 at the “Carl Maria von Weber” University of Music in Dresden | 1994 Studies abroad at the Rotterdam Conservatory. During studies founded rock band MerQury | Numerous international master classes at “Drummers Collective” N.Y., at the “Musician’s Institute” in L.A, among others.
