External nature and internal vision
This course will develop the visual acuity and techniques for realist painting.
Practice is centred on life studies, architectural interiors and landscape, with an emphasis on constructing form and inhabitable space.
Through drawing (graphite, charcoal) and painting (acrylic, oil) students will be encouraged to refine their aesthetic individuality, recognising that realist painting is a subtle integration of external nature and internal vision.
Guidance will be given on composition, perspective, colour and tone, and painting methods and materials.
Integral to the teaching is the introduction of strategies for the further development of students work, including advice on the use of lens-based media in contemporary realist painting.
