The visibly invisible
What defines the visible qualities of a work of art? What substance lies behind what appears, i.e. behind what is visible? Free, formally elaborated plastics are pitted against drawings, which can reflect the process of origin of the plastics or depict an artistic dispute as an independent means. The participants will be supported, encouraged, and inspired in their individual perception and their means of visual expression both in two as well as three-dimensional works of art.
With regard to plastics, we primarily work with light, elastic materials such as paper, wire, and aluminium plate. Those who wish to may also use material to design three-dimensional “soft sculptures” conceived as objects (bring a sewing machine!). The participants construct abstract or representational plastics, which are subject to certain artistic criteria such as volume, mass, space, tension, line and surface and which we will deal with in individual or group talks. Drawings and sketches are also welcome.
Materials:
All drawing materials preferred, ink brush drawings or oil pastel chalks, graphite and carbon pencils, scissors, and worn-out scissors (cuts thin sheets are better than certain wire cutters), pliers (for wire), if necessary sewing machine, filling materials and fabric. Wire and aluminium plate will be provided for a small fee (approx. 20-50 Euros).
