Etching: The intimate, the history and the monumental
The course focuses on expression by etching. The dry point etching is done on untreated or pre-treated leather. The participants will concentrate on rendering conscious the desired impression, which is brought about by the needle. The desired impact is produced by the different textures of the material and the use of the ink, which gives life to the stroke on the »imprimatur« . The selection of paper also contributes to the quality of the finished product.
The course shall promote and encourage sensitivity in dealing with the intuitive and objective parameters for artistic expression in etching. The interplay between materials, the artistic context and the clever handling and adequate selection of the artistic tools will also bring about the right expression. The course is aimed at both professionals in etching as well as artists wishing to be introduced to this technique. The exchange between different technical skill levels as well as the development of one’s own artistic capabilities will be encouraged.
Participants should bring: etching tools and several pieces of leather, if possible 19 x 28 cm (smaller than DIN A4), apron and materials such as black ink.
