2006 Program - 10 top-class courses with renowned artists  

This year’s Swabian Art Summer takes place from July 29th to August 6th, 2006. The following courses are offered:

Sighard Gille

Painting with Sighard Gille

In his course this year, the painter from Leipzig will be dealing with the interplay between colour and drawing in painting. The main focus of the course will be placed on representational activities, but also portraits.

Dieter Mammel

Painting with Dieter Mammel

The painter from Berlin invites you to discover the theme “reflection” with gouache, aquarelle, and Indian ink. He will deal with the use of colour, light and shadow on portraits and self-portraits.

Manfred Vogel

Large-format painting with Manfred Vogel

In this course, the concepts gesture, flow, form, and structure will be examined in painting in large-surface exercises. There are endless possibilities in terms of both object/form as well as structure/abstraction

Berit Myrebøe

Experimental printing techniques with Berit Myrebøe

During the workshop with this artist, who lives in Berlin, spatial reality and artistic imagination, painting originals and photographic reproductions are combined. This gives rise to unique works of art on aluminium and zinc plates or printed graphics as well.

Photography with Beate Passow

In her portrait course the artist from Munich explores the topic “right/left”. Digital portrait shots are split up by the computer and re-constructed right/right and left/left and then analyzed afterwards.

Sculpture with Taft Green

This artist from Los Angeles will be focusing his sculpture course on the presentation of the theme spatial modelling in contemporary culture. The analysis of current magazines and films will serve as a stimulus for the participants to create their own speculative designs.

Contemporary dance with Jochen Heckmann

This year the head choreographer and solo dancer from Augsburg will be complementing his course with a special form of art: Two additional young choreographers will be invited to join the 6-10 dancers in order to develop contemporary means of expression in modern ballet.

Choir mit Tanja Schubert

In her course, the choir director from Munich will be dealing with sophisticated choir literature primarily from the 20th century. The course spans from the “lack of freedom” of the singer to the improvisational possibilities which old patterns make tangible in the new context.

John Cage with Steffen Schleiermacher

The musician from Leipzig will place the main emphasis of his course on the artistic works of John Cage: performances, conversations, lectures on the works of John Cage, as well as the introduction to and performance of related scores and concepts are the themes of this course.

In his course on lyric poetry, the author from Berlin will be concentrating on figures from mythology, traditions, or one’s own imagination. All forms of poetry are welcome!
